Millennials, Gen Z Suffering Increased Rates Of Psychosis, Schizophrenia

Feb 2, 2026

A recent study found that Millennials and Gen Z are experiencing higher rates of psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia, than older generations, with cases rising significantly over time.

Younger cohorts—especially those born around 2000—show up to 70% higher rates of new psychosis diagnoses compared to earlier generations.

Overall, the trend suggests earlier onset and increasing prevalence, though researchers say more work is needed to understand why.
